Sound Recordist / Mixer
I joined the BBC film department based at the Ealing Film Studios as a trainee in 1978. As an assistant I spent several years boomswinging on the dramas being made at that time which included Bergerac, Miss Marple and Lovejoy, and in between the dramas I could be assisting on larger jobs, like music programmes that need an extra pair of hands, or working as a recordist on all sorts of doco based programmes. These early years gave assistants the opportunity to work on nearly every type of programming, so when I was made up to Recordist in 1994, I was suitably prepaired for the role.
In 1996 I left the BBC and become a freelance Recordist, and I still am now. Since leaving the BBC I continued working on mainly documentary based programmes picking up a BAFTA nomination for Paddington Green along the way, but more recently I have worked on several reality based multi-radio projects, and recorded three feature films.
Travel is a big perk of the job and at the last count I've been lucky to have worked in 45 countries including 19 North American states.
